Homemade Smashburger Lettuce Wrap Recipe

Ingredients for Smashburgers:

  • 1 lb grass-fed and grass-finished ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Organic butter lettuce or romaine leaves (for wrapping)
  • Optional toppings: sliced avocado, tomato, onions, pickles, grass-fed cheese

Ingredients for Homemade Aioli:

  • 1 large organic egg yolk (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup organic extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

For the Smashburgers:

  1. Prep the Beef: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions. Gently form each portion into a loose ball—don’t overhandle the meat to keep the patties tender.
  2. Heat the Pan: Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until it smokes.
  3. Smash Time: Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet and press them down firmly with a spatula to flatten. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side without disturbing.
  4. Season and Flip: Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using), then flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until browned and slightly crispy.
  5. Remove from Heat: Set the patties aside once cooked to your liking.

For the Homemade Aioli:

  1. Whisk the Base: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and minced garlic until smooth.
  2. Slowly Add Olive Oil: Drizzle in the olive oil while constantly whisking to emulsify the mixture. Keep whisking until the aioli is thick and creamy—season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Adjust Flavors: Taste your aioli and adjust with more lemon juice or seasoning as needed.

Assemble Your Smashburger Lettuce Wrap:

  1. Prep the Wraps: Rinse and pat dry the lettuce leaves. Layer 2-3 leaves together for each wrap to ensure they’re sturdy enough to hold the burger.
  2. Assemble: Place a Smashburger patty on the lettuce wrap, then add a dollop of homemade aioli. Pile on your favorite toppings, such as avocado slices, tomatoes, onions, or pickles.
  3. Wrap and Serve: Fold the lettuce around the patty and enjoy immediately while everything is fresh and juicy!

Tips:

  • For a Creamier Aioli: If your aioli is too thick, add a tiny splash of water to thin it out.
  • Customize It: For an extra boost of flavor, feel free to add bacon, grilled onions, or even a fried egg on top.

Why Grass-Fed and Grass-Finished Beef?

Using grass-fed and grass-finished beef ensures you get higher levels of healthy omega-3 fats, and the meat is free from harmful hormones and antibiotics. Plus, it’s loaded with vitamins and minerals like vitamin E, B vitamins, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which are great for your health.

So, next time you crave burgers, ditch the drive-thru and whip up these homemade smash burgers for a non-toxic, delicious meal!
